Real simple. Who do you think are the ten greatest workers of All-Time (of your wrestling viewing knowledge) and the criteria you should judge on are ringwork, promos, and classic feuds. Draw and success doesn't matter. I better not see Hogan's name on any lists. He is a hell of an entertainer but a load of shit as far as work is considered.
1. Ric Flair- I think he is the greatest everything in pro wrestling. Greatest Heel. Leader of the greatest faction, greatest world champion, incredible longevity, still better than 40% of the WWE's active roster at the age of what? Like 60?
2. Misawa- I can't think of anyone who has had more better matches than this guy. I can't think of any North American talent that can match this guy.
3. Lou Thesz- I've seen enough Thesz to judge him. He is so thorough in his work that it's insane considering how limited wrestling repertoires were back in the golden era. Plus he could cripple any of today's stars in a heartbeat, he was the sports last true hooker.
4. Kenta Kobashi- I feel that Japanese workers make wrestling look more legit and I have a bias, but it's hard to argue against this guy. I'm spreading the gospel and believe me when I say tracking down old All-Japan tapes will show you how great wrestling can be booked. AJPW in the late 80's through the 90's is easily the greatest promotion ever. I swear.
5. Shawn Michaels- The greatest wrestler of the modern-era. He is able to wrestle all styles and got great matches out of stiffs like Nash, Hogan, Sid, Henry and etc. Godly heel in 97 and the greatest performer in WrestleMania history. (Ladder Match at X, Iron Man at XII, Jericho, The XX triple threat, Vs Angle, Vs. Vince, Vs. Cena were all the best matches at their respective Manias)
6.Nick Bockwinkel- He was a fucking awesome heel. Better in the ring than both Briscoes, Gagne, Kolwalski, and I'd take him over both Dory Funks, and I'm a big enough wrestling nerd to have seen enough golden-era footage.
7.Toshiaki Kawada- Again, more AJPW bias, but you'd be hard pressed to find any North American trio that had better matches than Misawa/Kobashi/Kawada. For my money, there has never been a more talented roster assembled than the one AJPW boasted in it's heyday.
8. Chris Benoit-Up untill the last 72 hours of his life, he was the absolute best in North America for the past five-ten years, depends what your tastes are.
9. Terry Funk- Great fucking technical wrestler who wanted to make a name for himself in a famous wrestling family. He did just that with being a godfather of hardcore wrestling in North America. Great fucking work in Japan as well. One of the first gaijins to get over with the Japanese public.
10. Honorable Mentions: Dean Malenko, Randy Savage, Arn Anderson, Bobby Eaton, Fit Finlay, Kenta, Brian Danielson, Jerry Lawler, Steve Austin.
