Rough around the edges? Amazing how perspective is so personal. From where I was, I thought things went pretty smoothly (not counting the injuries to Vexx & Palmer) To pull off a 12 match show with 40 wrestlers plus all the other people involved is an amazing logistic challenge. I won't say the show was the best we've had, but it had it's moments. I agree the Tag Match was outstanding and Portia Perez was a huge surprise. The 4 kids in the elimination match were very impressive, providing far more than a typical spot fest. Everyone was disappointed that Dingo could not make it, especially Jaykus Plisken who feels he has something to prove I think. I would bet that he'll get his chance soon. Bottom line was I enjoyed the show immensely. It provided a much needed distraction from my own personal problems. I am already looking forward to September 20 It was what a wrestling show should be. Notice how wild the crowd got during the womens' match? It was the same way at the July show. Woman athletes putting it all out like that creates an energy like nothing else can. KUDOS to ACW for recognizing that, and not giving us "divas". This is something ACW does better than even the original ECW. Vexx can become all the intensity that New Jack was. Wish him luck in his career, and hope he doesn't cripple himself though. But man, that's commitment. Jerry Lynn - Great person to have on the scene; interacting with him during the intermission as a fan was wonderful. I do hope to see continued group efforts with The Takeover as time goes by...including the addition of a Joshi to the faction. r k

I enjoyed the show a lot. Wasn't too thrilled with the Claudia vs Lady Poison match but the rest was really good.
Any word on Vexx and Palmer? Did the submissions squad quit for real?

Claudia/Poison wasn't great from a pure wrestling standpoint, but I liked what I saw from Lady Poison - the character coming out more, and Claudia did a good job getting the drama across.
It was fun rooting for Claudia in that one.

yeah, i don't really dig the drunken austin crowds for acw, maybe cause i feel so defensive about my favorite promotion, it just seems like they don't appreciate it the same way the crowds in san antonio do, just my opinion though.
any updates on vexx, gary jay, and matthew palmer would be appreciated they looked like they were hurtin pretty bad.

For the amount of drinking going on they're o.k. I've seen much worse back in Florida.
At least you don't have people heckling stuff that has nothing to do with the show, and on the good side the enthusiasm, like during the Joshi match last night, is great.
So it's a - take some of the bad to get all of the good kind of thing.

For what it's worth, most of the crowd is pretty cool, as are the wrestlers. I don't see people trying to bogart others' seats, throwing stuff, or any of that. And there's some fans there who're really cool to talk to as well. I've been to wrestling shows where everyone's got the "tough guy" thing going, and that's no fun.
Love how the wrestlers are accessible and fan friendly during intermissions, etc., too. There's a real cool ethic at work there.

My buddies and I stand on the second deck and do a bit of heckling when appropriate, but those guys were just dumb. We were mocking their "heckling" attempts all night. It was a good show and Vexx/Jay was out freaking standing. Loved seeing someone go off the balcony, I told Shawn I was surprised he was the first. Hope Jay, Palmer and Vexx are all ok.

Fallout from August 23rd - Former ACW U-30 Champion Shawn Vexx fractured 2 metatarsals in his right foot and will be out of action for 6-8 weeks. For his efforts, Vexx has been granted a spot in the 4-way one fall to a finish #1 Contender match at the Lone Star Classic on November 15th - Matthew Palmer is not 100%, but will be in action on September 20th - Awesome Andy suffered a severe shoulder injury that will require surgery, he is expected to be out of action for 9-12 months - Jimmy Jacobs has declared to the ACW office that he is going to make Masada wait until October 18th for their first time match up as opposed to September 20th. Why Jimmy Jacobs has opted to pull this power play is still unknown and unexplained. - Masada will now wrestle The Takeover;'s Spiro one on one for the first time in ACW - Speaking of October 18th, A Nightmare on 10th Street will feature a Shimmer Star Making her ACW debut - Jaykus Plisken vs. Mike Dell for the ACW Heavyweight Championship will headline September 20th’s Evolution of the Revolution. And Ironically, these are the two competitors that joined Showtime in the main event of the first ACW event, Guilty By Association in a 30-minute Iron-man Match in which Scot Summers was crowned the 1st heavyweight Champion in our company’s history. Oh my, how we have evolved since that night. - The ACW office and the Submission Squad have reached a bit of a compromise. They will appear on September 20th as they have been granted a number one contendership match for the tag titles…more details on this later this week. - ACH, Just Willie, Court Caution & Chris Preston have all been given roster spots in ACW after their fantastic 4-way dance on August 23rd. - Jaykus Plisken Qualified for the Lone Star Classic with his win over World Champion boxer Michael Payne. - More Participants for the Lone Star Classic will be announced shortly.

I can totally vouch for that one. The ACW family was there for me during probably the saddest time of my life. And just like your friend I got to escape for a few hours at a ACW show 2 days after my loss. And it was a total spirit boost.

On a similar note, I can say for myself that having up-rooted form the east coast and moving here for family reasons, it hasn't always been an easy adjustment, or feeling like you "belong' anywhere; it's a lot different here than it was in Florida.
Being a lifelong wrestling fan I'm always on the lookout for companies I haven't heard of before, and found out about ACW when they had the Joshi tournament. Not only was it the best womens' wrestling I'd ever seen, but the best wrestling, period, I'd seen since the old ECW back in Ft. Lauderdale. That same atmosphere and vibe.
It was the first thing that felt like "home" to me here.

As this was only my second ACW show I am impressed, a friend of mine told me about it a few months ago and I am hooked.
I had no idea about this even though I went to school with Childs...and other then the stupid hecklers at the this show it was great, the wrestlers all did a fantastic job and the crowd really seems into it.

Not to glorify this kind of behavior but what was the deal with the hecklers, were they just being pricks to everyone who came out?

There was one small group, led by one particular individual who, as the night progressed and the blood alcohol content, became more aggressive in trying to become part of the show.
A couple of years ago, this would have really upset me, but I think I have grown to be more lenient toward different fans and how they choose to express themselves. Don't mistake what I am saying, I didn't like it. I simply chose to try and ignore it. I know that Masada and Dell have heard worse before, and if the asshole had actually crossed a line, he would have had it explained to him.
I did have to confront a different fan earlier in the show after he tossed an empty beer can at a departing wrestler. THAT was out of line, and the fan was made to understand that if he wished to stay for the remainder of the show, he would need to be in more control.
It all just illustrates how good the wrestlers in ACW are, that they are able to inspire such a reaction from the people in the crowd.

It all goes a lot deeper than alcohol consumption. it is a case of "If I'm not good enough to be booked in ACW, then I'll ruin the show!" It was pathetic, unnecessary and we will do our best to fix this problem in September. Thanks.

did not know that. Makes it all the more interesting that he would call out Masada, labeling him a Hippie a Pussy and a Faggot. I think those were the words he used.

At the Venue the only thing that would ever weird me out were the couple times a fan would be all up on the ring during a match.

I'm with ya on that Barry, Masada seemed like an odd choice for the object of his venom. And those were the words he used too. Glad it's being taken care of because Masada/Jacobs has the potential to be badass in October and really don't want to listen to that jerk-off the whole match.
And Darin, any update on Gary Jay? He was left off the injury update and I hope that means he's ok.

Gary Jay is alive and kicking. he is also in rough shape, but will be in action on September 20th.

Did anyone else get the cool vibe during the 4-man match with the newcomers that while they were all competing for spots, they were also at the same time working hard to make each other look good?
That's reminiscent of Guerrero-Malenko-Benoit.

I hadn't thought of it in quite that way, but I was impressed. Multi-man scramble elimination matches have the tendency to become just "spot fests" but these kids managed to give us a story in addition to the numerous spots. It was a very entertaining match on a number of levels. Kids that age are often hung up on their gimmicks and the charisma aspect of wrestling. If they continue to work on the fundamentals, the physical wrestling and such, they all have a world of potential.
This is one of the under-recognized aspects of ACW, finding and working with talent that is ready to step up to the next level and achieve a higher measure of awareness.

Yeah, there was no selfishness in that match at all. One part I would point out would be where Court slapped ACH, and stood there saying "Do something!", while ACH built his comeback. That match was a great example of a bunch of guys working together at doing something competitive for the ultimate goal of entertaining the crowd. Great chemistry all the way through. Wishing all those guys lots of success. That was the sleeper match of the show. r k
